We had the pleasure of spending the day after Thanksgiving this year with Hillary and Matt up in the mountains above Basalt, Colorado, just outside of Aspen. Their friends own a property called Peace Ranch, and together with 14 of their closest friends and family they put together an amazing, intimate Thanksgiving style wedding.
Everyone came together to cook a complete Thanksgiving dinner, all while rushing around trying to get ready for an actual wedding, too. The dogs were especially interested in helping with the cooking- the cute cake (complete with turkeys with a veil and bowtie!) had to be barricaded to keep the puppies at bay.
Hillary and Matt’s relationship began at the wedding of Matt’s sister, Meghan, who is also one of Hillary’s best friends. The two were paired together to walk down the aisle as part of the wedding party- no one knew at the time that they’d be completing that walk later as husband and wife! It was fitting then that Meghan should complete the process and be the one to marry them. I love the pictures of Hillary and Meghan both dabbing their eyes during the ceremony- there were a lot of happy tears all day long.
After a full Thanksgiving dinner, toasts and cake, the party headed over to the Ranch’s horse arena. If the magic of the ranch could be distilled into one place, this would be it. Not only is it a huge, heated space (with a full bar and rocking chairs for dressage spectators), but there are black and white cowboy hats, boots, chaps, and fishing gear in every size available for guests downstairs. Hillary and Matt surprised their guests with a great band, and though their party was small, it was mighty and well lubricated, and dancing continued well into the night.
Congratulations again you guys, and happy holidays!
We are very excited for you. What a beautiful place for the marriage of a beautiful couple. Love, Jon and Cindy
