Liz and John- Downtown Denver Engagement Session

December 8, 2013

Being a photographer in Colorado routinely teaches me the same lesson over and over again- beauty is where you look for it. I have to admit to being a little cranky about the weather before starting Liz and John’s engagement shoot. It was cold and grey, and we’d just had several of those 60 degree plus, sunny winter days right before this session- it was a recipe for Amanda fussiness. But once we met up with our wonderful couple and actually started shooting though, beauty was everywhere. It was in the way Liz’s grandmother’s fur and the grey skies made her honey-colored eyes flash. It was in the way the light hit a wall of wine bottles of the kind and accommodating Colt & Grey where we warmed up for a minute. It was in the lilacs and periwinkle blues of a delicate sunset over the Platte river in Confluence park.

Mostly, though it was in the way Liz and John love each other. You can see it especially in the way they snuggle and laugh, and the way John puts his arm around her shoulders. (And a little bit too in the way they floss their teeth, but I’m saving those photos just for them…)

Also, I love that the things we have a heart for as kids stick with us, and we love them as grown ups, even though it’s hard to explain why. Liz loves trains. She just does. Unfortunately, the train at REI was all fenced off, but the tracks there are easily accessible and safe. We thought it added a nice symbolism and a personal touch to their engagement photos!

Congratulations again, you guys! We can’t wait for your wedding in May!
